TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto Public Health has terminated the heat alert, Tuesday. It was issued on Monday.

This was the seventh heat alert issued by the city so far in 2012, covering nine days. Last summer, only six heat alerts were issued.

There’s also been four extreme heat alerts issued this year.

On Monday, Toronto broke a temperature record at Pearson International Airport. The mercury rose to 35 C, beating the record of 34.7 C set in 1999.

Temperatures in Toronto have been close to or above 30 C almost every day so far in July. The only real exceptions were July 19 (32 C) and July 20 (25 C). July’s highs have ranged from around 26 C to 36 C.

Last week saw the hottest July 17 ever on record, with the temperature reaching 36.8 C at Pearson, beating 2011’s record of 35.2 C.
